You will support a NIHR funded research project investigating the feasibility of using a novel virtual reality-based patient immobilisation system during radiotherapy to head and neck cancers. This development aims to reduce feelings of anxiety among patients during their daily treatment. The project is being conducted by the Radiotherapy Department of the Institute of Population Health and the School of Engineering, and this post is available as part of an NIHR “Research for Patient Benefit” grant held by Dr. Pete Bridge.
The aims of this project are to develop and evaluate a novel patient immobilisation system which is capable of delivering immersive virtual reality to the user while keeping them still in a reproducible position. The post will require you to work alongside the principal investigator during the user testing phase to recruit volunteers and gather data from them related to the impact of the device on anxiety and immobilisation. This project should result in improved treatment experience for patients; especially those who suffer from anxiety.
You should have experience of quantitative and qualitative research methods and strong interpersonal skills.
This is a fixed-term post, available for 5 months. Part-time, 0.5 FTE (17.5 hours per week)
