Job context

The Conference will feature approximately 85 paper presentations, delivered across several plenary sessions, followed by a high-profile plenary session led by Professor Sir Jonathan Montgomery, one of the leading scholars in the field.

Job Summary

Students will be required to be present from 9:00 to17:30 on the day of the Conference. Alongside the duties below, the selected students will have the opportunity to attend conference sessions throughout the day, including a plenary session led by one of the leading scholars in Health Law, Professor Sir Jonathan Montgomery.

The role provides the opportunity to develop professional and organisational skills, engage with leading academics in the field, and gain insight into events planning. Students will work closely with members of staff throughout the day to ensure the conference runs smoothly. Full guidance will be provided in advance of the event.

Main duties

Students employed in this role will be required to:

• Register Conference attendees on arrival at the Law School.
• Provide practical assistance, such as guiding visitors, assisting with presentation setup, keeping panel sessions to the schedule, and being available to provide with any issues that arise during the day.
• Liaise with organisers during the day as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience

• Final year undergraduate University of Birmingham Law students currently studying the ‘Legal Issues in Health Care’ module.
• Intent to follow a career in Health Law, whether in legal practice or academia.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to interact confidently with attendees and presenters.
• Reliable and professional, with the ability to follow instructions and respond to any issues appropriately.
• Fosters a fair and equitable workplace for all staff.

Further details

• This role will be one day of work (17/06/2026) consisting of an 8.5 hour shift.
• Students will receive refreshments throughout the day, and lunch will be provided.
• Preference will be given to candidates who intend to pursue a career in Health Law, whether in legal practice or academia.
