Vehicle Systems Engineer Full Time NEW

We’re working with a pioneering green-tech innovator focused on driver efficiency and fleet decarbonisation on this exciting opportunity. We are looking for a hands-on Engineer to lead the charge in reverse engineering the latest EV and commercial vehicle platforms to unlock critical data insights.

This is a high-impact role where you will bridge the gap between physical vehicle hardware and sophisticated cloud-based analytics. You’ll be the technical lead for vehicle integration, utilizing Python, C/C++, and advanced diagnostic tools to decode signals that drive real-world efficiency gains for global fleets.

The Role

• Lead the vehicle compatibility programme by sourcing and reverse engineering the latest EVs and commercial vehicles to extract proprietary data.
• Capture, log, and decode raw vehicle data through OBDII, proprietary connectors, and direct loom access to map signals like battery state, torque, and fault codes.
• Build and optimize automated tooling and vehicle data simulators to streamline the integration pipeline and testing processes.
• Act as the key technical liaison with vehicle OEMs and bodybuilders to secure early access to new vehicle architectures and technical documentation.
• Collaborate closely with the Embedded Systems team to translate your research into production-ready firmware and application updates.

What You’ll Need

• Proven experience in vehicle systems engineering, with a deep understanding of vehicle electrical architectures and diagnostic hardware.
• Strong programming proficiency in Python and C/C++ for data analysis, automation, and system integration.
• Expert-level knowledge of diagnostic standards, specifically SAE J1939 and SAE J1979 (CAN bus).
• A proactive, investigative mindset with experience in reverse engineering or decoding CAN signals to derive meaningful parameters.
• Ability to travel to OEM partners and fleet sites; ideally based in or near the Birmingham area for vehicle access.
