We’re looking for friendly, enthusiastic Retail Assistants to join our team for a lively and rewarding season at the Zoo.
The Role
As a Retail Assistant, you’ll be right at the heart of our visitor experience, working across all areas of our retail operation – from bustling kiosks and gift shops to our off site store at Chester Market. No two days are the same!
You’ll deliver excellent customer service, help visitors find the perfect souvenir, hit sales targets, keep displays looking great, manage stock and cash, and help keep our units clean, tidy and welcoming – all while creating lasting memories for our guests.
Hours & Flexibility
This is a variable hours role, and flexibility is key. Our busiest times are school holidays and summer events, and we’re looking for people who are happy and able to work extra hours during these peak periods.
We also run our popular Afterglow summer events, so some shifts may finish as late as 10pm. If you enjoy a lively atmosphere, don’t mind staying later to support busy events, and like working extra hours when it matters most, this could be perfect for you.
The induction will take place on Sunday 17 May, so you’ll need to be available on this date. If not, keep an eye on our careers page as we will likely have more positions available for the summer.
The Package
- Temporary contract, starting 17 May to 6 September 2026
- Rate of pay of £12.71 per hour regardless of age

What We’re Looking For
- A passion for delivering brilliant customer service
- Confident, friendly communication skills
- A positive, flexible approach with a real “can‑do” attitude
- An enthusiasm for meeting targets and upselling
- Comfort working outdoors for long periods, in all weathers
- Retail or visitor attraction experience is a bonus, but not essential
