Birkbeck, University of London, is looking for a Lecturer in Medieval Art and Architecture to join our teaching team this Autumn 2026.
As a full-time Lecturer, you would join the research-led art history team at the School of Historical Studies, on a one-year replacement while Dr Zoe Opacic is on a Leverhulme Grant.
We are seeking an art historian specialising in medieval art and architecture, with a track record of teaching diverse groups of students. You will contribute to the teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in history of art and history of art with curating, and Option Modules at levels 6 and 7.
You will also contribute to supervising BA and MA dissertations, acting as personal tutor to a group of students, and to convening modules.
This opportunity would build on your proven experience as a scholar and a lecturer, supervisor and mentor to students from a wide variety of educational backgrounds; as an effective administrator; and as a proactive team member.

Contract

Salary and benefits
£44,247 rising to £60,858 per annum. Grade LLEC, quoted is on the College’s London Pay Scale which includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the London area.
