Our client, a highly regarded special educational needs (SEN) school located in Shirley, West Midlands, is seeking a dedicated and experienced full-time Teaching Assistant to join their dynamic team. As a Teaching Assistant at our client’s SEN school, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational and social development of pupils with diverse needs and abilities. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, providing one-to-one and small-group support, assisting in lesson planning and delivery, and adapting materials and activities to meet the unique needs of each student. You will work closely with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to ensure a holistic and inclusive approach to each child’s education.

The ideal candidate for this position will have a strong understanding of SEN teaching practices, as well as the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues. Excellent communication skills, a patient and empathetic nature, and a genuine commitment to making a difference in the lives of young learners are essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and small-group support to SEN students, tailoring your approach to meet their individual needs
• Assist in lesson planning and delivery, adapting materials and activities as required
• Support students with personal care tasks, such as toileting, feeding, and mobility, ensuring their dignity and well-being
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to develop and implement effective strategies for student learning and development
• Monitor and record student progress, maintaining detailed and accurate records
• Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities to continuously improve your skills and knowledge
• Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment, fostering a sense of belonging and self-esteem in all students
• Ensure a safe and secure learning environment, adhering to all relevant health and safety guidelines

Required Qualifications And Skills

• Relevant qualifications in education, such as a teaching assistant diploma or equivalent
• Experience working with SEN students in a school or similar setting
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues
• Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and work effectively under pressure
• Patience, empathy, and a genuine commitment to supporting the educational and social development of SEN students
• Flexibility and adaptability, with the ability to respond to the changing needs of the classroom
• Proficient in the use of technology and digital tools to support student learning
