SECTION 1 – ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
The following are essential criteria which will initially be measured at the shortlisting stage and which may also be further explored during the interview/selection stage. You should therefore make it clear on your application form how, and to what extent you meet these criteria. Failure to do so may result in you not being shortlisted.

Qualifications to be obtained by the date of taking up appointment
Hold a teaching qualification which meets the requirements for recognition to teach in grant-aided schools in Northern Ireland
Hold a degree (minimum 2:2 honors) or equivalent Level 6 qualification which has prepared the applicant to teach GCSE and A Level Media Studies as his/her main subject
or
Teaching qualification which has prepared the applicant to teach GCSE English and A-Level English as his/her main subject

Experience
Experience of teaching GCSE/Level 2 Media Studies, or Moving Image Arts in a post primary school to achieve positive learning outcomes (teaching practice acceptable)
Demonstrable experience of using a range of effective approaches to achieve high outcomes for young people of all abilities

Be registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before taking up post

Demonstrable knowledge of current assessment methods to inform teaching and learning.

Ability to work collaboratively to promote positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, parents/carers and the wider community

Minimum of 2 years’ experience teaching Media Studies or Moving Image Arts to GCSE
Experience of teaching Media Studies or Moving Image Arts to A Level (teaching practice acceptable)
Experience of leading a subject or curriculum area
Experience of teaching General Subjects, particularly English or LLW
