As part of an integrated team with HS2, MDJV coordinates delivery of the high speed station, including platforms, concourse and links to the London Underground within one of the country’s most complex urban environments. The station features six deep level high speed platforms, positioned around 9 metres below street level and designed to support trains up to 400m in length.The roleThe Fire Safety Manager is responsible for leading, coordinating, and assuring fire safety arrangements. The role ensures that fire risks are identified, controlled, monitored, and communicated in line with statutory requirements, MDJV standards, and best practice.The Fire Safety Manager provides both strategic oversight and practical site based support, working collaboratively with key stakeholders including the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), Health, Safety & Wellbeing (HSW) team, Assurance and Compliance team, site team and the external Fire Consultant to ensure effective fire risk management throughout all phases of construction. The role involves a combination of on site and office based activities.Responsibilities Support the project in meeting its duties under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, including advising the Responsible Person (Project Director) on compliance arrangements Lead the implementation and continual improvement of the project fire safety management system Ensure compliance with relevant fire safety legislation and MDJV standards Provide competent fire safety advice to project teams, leadership, and contractors. Monitor, audit, and review fire safety arrangements across the site using Yellow Jacket Carry out fire safety inspections as required by the audit and inspection schedule on Yellow Jacket. Support the investigation, reporting, and close‑out of fire‑related incidents and actions Liaise with enforcing authorities, fire engineers, insurers, and third party auditors as required. Prepare, review, and maintain accurate fire safety documentation and records. Promote a positive fire safety culture through engagement, guidance, and training. Liaise and engage with the external Fire Consultant to coordinate visits and escort around the site. Review the Fire Risk Assessment and Fire Safety Plans monthly and update as required. Ensure all actions identified within Fire Risk Assessments are closed out in a timely manner Monitor temporary fire protection measures, housekeeping standards, and hot works controls. Ensure the hot works permit system is being managed correctly and effectively. Coordinate emergency planning, drills, and evacuation procedures. Act as person in charge at Fire Control Point during evacuations. Review the fire strategy and ensure alignment with construction phasing and design intent Ensure fire safety controls are effectively communicated to site operatives and supervisors. Ensure sufficient fire wardens are in place for any welfare areas and carry out documented briefings.You’ll need to have Minimum 3 years’ experience construction experience. Minimum Level 3 Fire Safety qualification (or equivalent). Minimum Level 4 Construction Fire Risk Assessor (or equivalent). CSCS Card (Gold Supervisors/Black Managers or Academically Qualified Person). Relevant experience in fire safety management within the construction sector. Membership of a recognised professional body (Minimum MIFSM/AIFireE). Awareness of construction methods and their impact on fire risk. Experience working on large, complex, or multi‑contractor sites Strong knowledge of UK fire safety legislation and guidance, including construction‑phase requirements. Understanding of fire risk assessment principles and temporary fire risk management Experience applying fire safety requirements on complex or large construction sites Ability to carry out site inspections, audits, and compliance reviews Competence in incident investigation and root cause analysis Ability to interpret drawings, layouts, and fire strategies relevant to construction worksYou can find more information about our culture, values, and how we reward our people here.Mace is an inclusive employer and welcomes interest from a diverse range of candidates.
