Ward Assistant – Plastic Surgery and Burns Full Time

The Role:

This post is an exciting opportunity to be part of the team at the Scottish National Burns Centre based in the Burns and Plastic Surgery Unit at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

The Burns Unit receives patients from across Scotland that require specialist Burns care. This is inclusive of big burn injury, complex cases, rehabilitation and those who require specialist care and treatments. The unit works closely with ITU and Theatres to deliver burn care which promotes healing function and the best possible outcomes for our patients. There is a strong focus on the patient journey and recovery which requires many Health Care Professionals.

The post holder will work within a team of Registered Nurses and Health Care Support Workers to ensure the safe delivery of care. The successful applicant is expected to have a flexible approach to the daily routine and an understanding and ability to prioritise circumstances/situations arising throughout the day. Working as part of the nursing team the role includes communicating with other departments such as Estates and Supplies and Stores to support a safe and efficient environment to deliver care.

No Band 2 roles are eligible for sponsorship under the or routes. For Band 3 roles, only posts of 32 hours per week or more may meet eligibility. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) cannot provide a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) for roles that do not meet these criteria, and applications requiring sponsorship will not be considered.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

• Location based in Glasgow Royal Infirmary
• Permanent Contract
• Part-time position (18.36 hours per week)
• Shift pattern for this post are Monday to Friday 4 days per week

Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours.

Key Responsibilities:

Main duties are categorised under the following headings:

Cleaning

• The post holder will undertake the monitoring of cleanliness and influence the quality of cleaning standards in the department. Ensuring predetermined standards are complied with consistently. This will include daily cleaning lists completion and standard operating procedure for cleaning of near patient equipment. The post holder is expected to liaise with domestic services to arrange ad hoc cleaning tasks such as spot cleaning, secondary cleaning, terminal/deep cleans.

Maintenance

• Ensure clinical area is in good state of repair. Highlight and report repairs to the SCN and use the reporting platform to request repairs. Report Health and Safety issues and monitor follow-up actions

Catering

• Liaise with dietary kitchen to ensure supplies available to meet needs of patient group. Communicate with nursing teams to identify needs of patients and assist with meal service

Patients

• Support patients recovery, assist with belongings ensure kept safe and transferred safely if necessary. Assist patients with their non-clinical needs

Systems

• Basic Information Technology skills essential
