Lead Engineer – Document Automation Full Time NEW

With continued growth, we’re looking for a Lead Engineer to join our Document Automation Portal team. HotDocs is Mitratech’s flagship document automation platform, used by enterprise clients worldwide to streamline the assembly of complex legal documents and contracts. The Advance portal is a modern and actively developed software solution for managing customer templates and documents.

As Lead Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in evolving this product, combining hands-on coding with technical leadership, while guiding a small but high-performing development team. This is a remote-first role.

About the Role

As the Lead Engineer of the Document Automation Portal, you will:

• Lead by Example: Write clean, maintainable, high-performance code in the latest versions of .NET Core and Angular, while setting the technical direction for the team.
• Own Team Delivery: Take accountability for the work of a 3-person development team, ensuring timely, high-quality delivery against sprint and release goals.
• Mentor & Manage: Provide technical guidance, coaching, and feedback to your team. Lead performance reviews, workload planning, and ensure professional development.
• Recruit & Grow Talent: Drive interviewing and hiring for the Document Automation Portal team, ensuring we attract and retain top engineering talent.
• Architect Solutions: Apply modern architectural patterns and design principles to ensure scalability, security, and sustainability of the platform.
• Optimize Performance: Apply deep expertise in performance tuning across both applications and databases.
• Lead AI Integration: Champion the thoughtful use of AI-assisted coding tools, ensuring they enhance productivity without compromising quality, maintainability, or security.
• Deliver Resilient Cloud Solutions: Engineer solutions using Azure services (App Services, Functions, Redis, DNS/networking).
• Embed Security by Design: Bring a security-first mindset to all aspects of development, ensuring that every solution delivered by the team is resilient against threats, compliant with best practices, and meets the high standards expected by enterprise clients.
• Automate & Streamline: Partner with DevOps to strengthen CI/CD pipelines, leverage containers (especially Linux-based), and drive automation across delivery.
• Collaborate Effectively: Work closely with product managers, stakeholders, and other teams to align technical execution with business objectives.

Required Skills and Experience

• 8+ years in professional software development/engineering.
• Strong expertise in .NET Core (C#) and Angular (TypeScript) or similar frontend framework.
• Proven experience leading small development teams (delivery ownership, coaching, workload planning).
• Hands-on experience designing and running high-availability, globally distributed enterprise applications in production.
• Deep familiarity with Azure services (App Services, Functions, Redis, DNS, networking).
• Strong track record of performance tuning applications and databases (SQL Server).
• Experience with Azure DevOps, Git workflows, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with containers (especially Linux containers) in production environments.
• Strong understanding of web application security and secure-by-design practices.
• Proven ability to lead technical hiring and build effective engineering teams.

Nice to Have

• Experience in compliance-heavy industries (legaltech, fintech, enterprise SaaS).
• Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code practices.
• Contributions to open-source or community technical leadership.
• Experience with AI-assisted development beyond coding tools (e.g., test generation, CI/CD augmentation).
• Experience collaborating across globally distributed teams and fostering knowledge-sharing practices.
