Our new factory unit and Fibre laser with full stock automation more than doubles our production capacity and throughput. *This is a hands-on role that would suit someone with a background in quality control wishing to progress their quality career in process improvement within a manufacturing environment. Within this role you will be responsible for ensuring all aspects of day-to-day inspection duties are met, along with defining and implementation of continual improvement targets.*

About The Role

The Senior Quality Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all manufactured components and assemblies meet MSL’s quality, customer, and regulatory requirements. This role plays a key part in maintaining compliance with ISO 9001, supporting continuous improvement, and providing technical expertise in inspection methods, including advanced measurement using CMM equipment. The successful candidate will act as a senior point of reference within the inspection function, supporting junior inspectors, liaising with Engineering and Production, and contributing to the ongoing development of quality systems and processes.

The job role is responsible for promoting a quality culture throughout the organisation; liaising with colleagues and key stakeholders to maintain agreed standards both to internal and customer requirements.

*Key Tasks/Duties of this role: Inspection & Measurement*

• Carry out detailed inspection to customer specifications and drawings of precision sheet metal components and assemblies using a range of measurement equipment, including CMMs, height gauges, micrometers, verniers, and optical measurement systems.
• Program, operate, and interpret results from Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) to verify dimensional compliance.
• Perform first article inspection (FAI)
• Accurately interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications.

*Quality Systems & Compliance*

• Ensure inspection activities comply with ISO 9001 requirements and MSL quality procedures.
• Support internal and external audits by providing inspection records, evidence, and technical input.
• Identify non-conformances, raise NCRs, and support root cause analysis and corrective actions with quality engineers
• Maintain accurate and traceable quality records and inspection reports.

*Continuous Improvement & Support*

• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to Quality Inspectors and production staff where required.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing defects, improving inspection efficiency, and strengthening quality controls.

*Essential skills: *

• Minimum 5+ years relevant experience from a transferable ISO9001 environment
• Experience of fine limit sheet metal inspection
• Proven experience in a senior or lead quality inspection role within a manufacturing or precision engineering environment.
• Strong hands-on experience with CMM operation and programming.
• In-depth understanding of ISO 9001 quality management systems.
• Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T.
• High level of attention to detail with a methodical, analytical approach.
• Confident communicator able to work cross-functionally.

Desirable Skills

• Experience in regulated or high-reliability industries (e.g. aerospace, defence, medical, or similar).
• Experience supporting internal or external quality audits.
• Familiarity with additional quality standards or customer-specific requirements.
• Previous experience mentoring and supporting junior inspectors.
• Previous experience with managing teams and schedules
