Biomedical Scientist – Haematology Full Time NEW

The Role

We are seeking a Specialist Biomedical Scientist within the Haematology Department at Gartnavel General Hospital, Glasgow. It is a nonrotational role based in the Haematooncology section, involving analytical, interpretive and clinical advisory haematology work. The role includes flow cytometry analysis, processing and issuing cellular therapy products, and contributing to research and developmental work within the department.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

• Location: Haematology Department, Gartnavel General Hospital, Glasgow, with services linked to Glasgow Royal Infirmary and Stobhill ACH.
• Work pattern:
• Parttime, 23.4 hours per week
• MondayWednesday, 09:0017:00
• One Thursday, 09:0013:00 every 4 weeks
• Flexible working may be required, but no participation in the 24hour rota.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform a range of haematological tests and complex laboratory procedures.
• Process, test, issue, store and distribute haemopoietic progenitor cell and mature cell products.
• Carry out flow cytometry (immunophenotyping) analysis to support the diagnosis of haematological malignancies.
• Support the regional and national services, including:
• Immunophenotyping for malignant and nonmalignant disorders
• National MRD flow cytometry service for the ALLTogether trial
• Autologous and allogeneic transplant services
• CART therapy services
• Work safely with liquid nitrogen and within liquid nitrogen storage areas.
• Participate in research projects and ongoing departmental development.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

• BSc Honours Degree meeting HCPC requirements.
• HCPC State Registration (mandatory).
• IBMS Specialist Diploma completed or in progress.
• Evidence of participation in Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
• Desirable experience:
• Stem cell processing
• Flow cytometry
