Description
This is a unique opportunity for a languages specialist to take sole responsibility for the teaching and development of French and Spanish across the whole school, from Nursery through to Year 6. French will be the main language taught with Spanish being taught for part of the year. The successful candidate will play a central role in shaping pupils’ early experiences of language learning and in fostering a genuine enthusiasm for languages and the cultures in which they are spoken.
The appointed teacher will plan and deliver a progressive and coherent programme of French and Spanish that is carefully tailored to suit a wide range of ages and developmental stages. From introducing Nursery children to new sounds and simple vocabulary through songs, games and stories, to building confidence, accuracy and communication skills in older pupils, the role requires creativity, adaptability and a deep understanding of how children learn languages.
Language teaching at our school is intended to be enriching, immersive and culturally informed. The successful candidate will bring languages to life by introducing pupils to the traditions, customs and everyday life of French‑ and Spanish‑speaking countries, helping them to develop curiosity, cultural awareness and respect for others alongside linguistic skills. Spoken language, correct pronunciation and enjoyment of communication are central to our approach.
As the sole languages specialist, the teacher will be responsible for curriculum planning, assessment and progression throughout the school, ensuring pupils are well prepared for the next stage of their education. There will also be opportunities to contribute to whole‑school enrichment, events and celebrations that support language learning and cultural understanding.
We are looking for someone with strong subject knowledge in both French and Spanish, who is confident working independently and has the warmth, patience and enthusiasm required to teach young children. Previous experience teaching across the early years and primary age range would be highly advantageous, as would a genuine passion for inspiring a love of languages.
The role is for 3 days per week (8.00am – 4.30pm each day).
The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The health, safety and well-being of all our pupils are of paramount importance to all the staff at Kew College Prep. We are committed to providing an environment in which children feel welcomed, safe, valued and respected. Adults in our school know that keeping children safe is everybody’s responsibility and that all children, regardless of age, gender, culture, language, race, ability, sexual identity, religion or lack of religion have equal rights to protection and opportunities. We expect all of our employees to mirror and demonstrate this commitment.
To ensure that we comply with our Safeguarding commitment and responsibility, the school will undertake all necessary vetting checks, pre and post interview, including an enhanced DBS check, internet checks, teaching prohibition checks, references, right to work in the UK and medical fitness.
